Honeycumb cardboard

Substition of EPS

circularity

Since 2020, we have started to replace EPS in our packaging by using honeycomb cardboard. Honeycomb cardboard is made from recycled materials, which has a significantly lower environmental impact. In 2020, we improved the packaging of our panels, and in 2021, we ensured a more sustainable packaging of our single skin products was put into place. By switching to honeycomb cardboard, 50% less EPS is consumed each year. This means a total of 31,000m³ less EPS per year.

Pet bottles

Since 2023, we have also been using a new polyol, as a component of our PIR foam, which contains an increased amount of recycled PET bottles.

Waste production and management

circularity

One of our Planet Passionate goals is to have zero waste to landfill by 2030. To achieve this goal, our waste is reported monthly and closely monitored. Our non-recycled waste consists of 3 major streams: PIR waste, municipal waste and mineral fibre waste. For PIR waste, nothing currently goes to landfill. For municipal waste, we are working on more segregation and sorting of the waste so that more parts can be recycled. In addition, we are looking for new waste processing partners in all our markets that no longer dump municipal waste but process it in another way. For mineral fibre waste too, we are working with our suppliers to recycle an increased fraction.

To ensure proper management of the different waste fractions, it is extremely important that sorting takes place correctly at our production sites. To demonstrate the importance of this, we run several Planet Passionate visibility campaigns internally.
