A project for the region
As part of the Plan Ambition Collèges 2017-2024 set up by the Department of Seine-Maritime, a gymnasium has been built for the Claude Monet secondary school in Saint-Nicolas d'Aliermont. The aim of this plan is to maintain a high quality building heritage that meets the education needs of the region's pupils.
The project includes the construction of a 40 x 20 metre gymnasium with 4 changing rooms. The project is located on a plot of land in the immediate vicinity of the college, made available by the municipality. The hall will be used for basketball competitions at regional level. The construction work lasted 15 months and cost a total of €1,963,000.
The architectural firm En Act was responsible for the architectural design.
A word from the architect
The aim of this project is to give architectural coherence to the contemporary building complex already in place with the Claude Monet college located just a stone's throw away.
Anchored in the residential fabric, the moderately open volumetry ensures a certain degree of privacy from the neighbouring streets.
To accompany the sports activity, the glazed access to the gymnasium brings natural light to the space and offers visibility to ensure the control of those entering. The curtain wall on the lower third of the north-east façade provides quality natural light to the sports hall, while protecting it from glare and overheating.
