Julian Giraud

career story

My name is Julian Giraud and I am 35 years old. I’ve always wanted to work in an industrial environment, so I joined Joris Ide Auvergne in 2009. Besides work, I enjoy spending time nature and I am a big rugby fan.

What is your role at Joris Ide?

I hold the position of Assistant Production Manager and Environmental Manager within the Planet Passionate program. Within Joris Ide, I am a referent trainer for overhead cranes and self-propelled forklifts and I take part in various projects in collaboration with the quality and safety department.

How has your career at Joris Ide evolved?

I first started my career in bending on a machine tool used to cut sheet metal. I then moved on to the folding machines, the welding station and the punching machine. All these experiences allowed me to acquire a very good knowledge of the production and thus to evolve towards the position of manager in the bending sector as soon as the opportunity presented itself. After a training period in the profiling sector, I continued my evolution to become Assistant Production Manager, the position I hold today.

My tasks in this role are varied: I am trained to replace the head of the profiling workshop and the head of bending on the scheduling of production. I take care of the design calculation for bent profiles, the drafting of workshop procedures, the follow-up of the 5S method (editor’s note: Eliminate, Tidy, Clean, Standardize, Respect). I am also the Planet Passionate Manager for our sustainability development program with the objective of reducing the environmental impact of our activities.

Did you easily find your way within the company?

There is a very strong team spirit here at Joris Ide. Like all newcomers, I integrated quickly and I learned a lot in the first weeks thanks to my colleagues. And now, its my turn to pass knowledge to the newcomers.

I have been able to increase my skills and responsibilities on several occasions. It hasn't always been easy, but given enough time and efforts, I've been able to enjoy a steady career progression over the past 12 years. Having the opportunity to evolve internally within the group is in my opinion one of Joris Ide's strong points.

Joris Ide is a very dynamic and innovative employer with a long-term vision. We can see it group policy and the subsequent investments made these last few years. Working for a group with such a global dimension offers employees like me a high level of job security while maintaining the conviviality of a human-sized company.

What does your work day look like?

I start my day by reviewing the workshop with the operators. I continue by participating in the various activities related to production, and by working on the various projects in progress.

At the moment, I am focused on improving the environmental impact of our activities, whether it’s through the sorting of our waste or the consumption of different resources. The environmental approach is one of the key points to take into account in the modernization of our working methods.  As part of the Joris Ide Auvergne factory expansion, I make sure that the environmental questions are a central part of the project.

What I appreciate most in my job is the diversity of the missions. I have the opportunity to contribute to many projects and I enjoy an excellent relationship with all my colleagues, whether in the workshops or in the offices.

Is there anything you still would like to achieve at Joris Ide?

In production, we are above all motivated by customer satisfaction. This is what makes Joris Ide products so famous and that's why we are always looking for new ways to improve the working conditions, the quality of the products and our environmental impact. It's a daily effort, seeing what our customers build with our products makes it worthwhile.
