Hervé Gaufreteau

My name is Hervé Gaufreteau, I'm 50 years old and I'm a Quality / Safety coordinator at Joris Ide Atlantique. I started my professional career after obtaining a machining and turning degree. I first worked in a company for 18 years before joining Joris Ide 14 years ago.

I started at Joris Ide in the folding workshop and I am now working on animation and training missions related to quality and safety issues.

Your career path evolved a lot, how did this work out for you?

My first position in the company was in the production unit as a shearer/folder. With years of field experience, and thanks to the many internal trainings available, I had the opportunity to move up the responsibility ladder within the company on a number of occasions. Thus, I have held the positions of finished goods controller and scheduler before finally becoming a Quality/Security coordinator and trainer. At Joris Ide, we work in close collaboration with our colleagues and we are lucky to be well surrounded in order to further our skills.

Can you describe a typical work day?

A typical work day begins with a walk-through on the factory floor and logistics fleet to identify any issues. If necessary, you must be reactive, implement corrective measures in a timely manner and contact customers to keep them informed of the situation.

In these types of tasks, you really feel like you're making a difference.

The rest of the day is spent on my quality and safety duties. In the quality department, I study customer requests in conjunction with the sales team to find solutions for each individual case. In the work safety department, we are constantly looking for ways to improve. My missions include conducting audits to further develop our processes. Finally, as a trainer, I familiarize my colleagues with different practices to improve workplace safety. For example, I offer a LOTO (Lockout-tagout) training course, a method that helps avoid accidents in the event of equipment breakdown or maintenance.

What is your favourite part of your job?

My favourite part of my job is being able to analyse and suggest ways to improve the workplace. I get a lot of satisfaction out of bettering work processes because it helps keep my colleagues safe. In this kind of mission, you really feel like you are making a difference.

What are your major challenges / projects for this year?

This year, my main challenge will be to train our new EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) employee who joined us on a permanent contract in January 2022. Moreover, I will be able to follow an internal tutor training course to better supervise our new recruits.

What words would best summarize Joris Ide's corporate culture to someone considering joining us?

Joris Ide is a wonderful employer who listens to its employees. The company knows in which direction to go with each collaborator and helps its employees evolve in their professional careers within the organization.
